Two of the daughters were Iphigenia and Electra. Homer depicted Clytemnestra as a good but weak woman who is misled and manipulated by Aegisthus. In Homer’s version of the story, it is Aegisthus who actually murders Agamemnon. Many years after the death of Agamemnon at the hands of Clytemnestra, his wife, Orestes returns to avenge his father’s death.

Telemachus then asks Nestor about Agamemnon’s fate. Nestor explains that Agamemnon returned from Troy to find that Aegisthus, a base coward who remained behind while the Greeks fought in Troy, had seduced and married his wife, Clytemnestra. With her approval, Aegisthus murdered Agamemnon.

Aegisthus saw his father Thyestes betrayed by Agamemnon's father Atreus (Aegisthus was conceived specifically to take revenge on that branch of the family). Aegisthus In Greek mythology, Aegisthus was the lover of Clytemnestra, and son of Thyestes and Pelopia. Thyestes, having a long – time rivalry with his brother and king of Mycenae, Atreus, was advised by an oracle to have a son with his own daughter, Pelopia, who would then kill his brother.
